We have put together answers to our most frequently asked questions regarding joining the CNAS Transfer Connections Program and transferring to CNAS. We encourage you to review these sections for answers as you: 1) get ready to transition, 2) are admitted, 3) become a current student of the program, and 4) when referring others to our program.   • What is the CNAS Transfer Connections Program?

    The CNAS Transfer Connections Program is part of the Student Success unit within the CNAS Undergraduate Academic Advising Center (UAAC). It is designed to support students transferring to the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (CNAS) at the University of California, Riverside. The program provides resources, mentorship, and opportunities to help ease the transition for transfer students and set them up for academic success.

  • Who is eligible for the CNAS Transfer Connections Program?

    This program is open to students who have been admitted to CNAS at UCR as transfer students. Typically, this includes students transferring from community colleges or other universities. 

  • What benefits are offered through the program?

    Students in the CNAS Transfer Connections Program will receive:

    • Personalized Advising: Guidance from the Manager of Transfer Success Programs to ensure a smooth transition and to help students get connected to ensure success
    • Mentorship: Connect with upper-division students for support and career advice.
    • Transfer Transition Seminar (NASC 092): Participate in a 1-unit seminar on topics like time management, research opportunities, and professional development as well as guest speakers from our Pre-Professional Advising Center and Graduate Programs, you'll also receive support on starting a Curriculum Vitae (CV) and mapping out your grad/med school goals.
    • Socials and Themed Workshops: Free access to Alumni/Professional Panels, Faculty-Student Mixers, Goodie Bag Socials, STEM Cafe just to name a few. 
    • Networking Opportunities: Connect with fellow transfer students, faculty, and industry professionals.
    • STEM Room: Access to the STEM Room in Pierce Hall 1105, free snacks and a great study space.
  • How do I apply to the CNAS Transfer Connections Program?

    Once admitted to UCR and CNAS, students will automatically be considered for the CNAS Transfer Connections Program. Specific instructions for joining the program will be sent to you in an email, you can also sign-up by clicking on the registration link on our page or by going to the interest form.

  • Is there a cost to participate in the program?

    The program is free for students who are admitted to CNAS. There are no additional fees associated with participating in the program.

  • Do I have to be a specific major to join the program?

    The CNAS Transfer Connections Program is open to all students who are admitted to a major within the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences at UCR.

  • How long does the program last?

    The CNAS Transfer Connections Program is designed to support students throughout their time at UCR, particularly in the transition phase. Students are encouraged to stay engaged with the program for as long as they find it beneficial.

  • Can I participate in the program if I’m a part-time student?

    Yes! The program is open to all CNAS transfer students, regardless of whether they are studying full-time, part-time, or returning after having a gap in your education. Some activities and resources may be available virtually to accommodate different student needs.

  • Will the program help me with career planning and internships?

    Yes, the program includes career-focused resources, including resume workshops, research opportunities, and guidance on how to pursue research and professional development activities related to your field of study.

  • How can I contact the program for more information or if I have specific questions?

  • Can I still participate in the program if I’m transferring from a UC campus?

    Yes, as long as you are transferring into a CNAS major at UCR, you are eligible for the program. It is designed to assist all transfer students, regardless of their previous institution.

  • How will I be matched with a mentor?

    Mentors are assigned based on your academic interests and career goals. You will be paired with an upper-division student in a similar major, who can provide you with tailored advice and support during your transition.

  • Is the CNAS Transfer Connections Program available every quarter?

    Yes, the program is available to transfer students entering UCR in the fall, winter, and spring quarters. However, certain activities may be more concentrated in the fall, as that is when most transfer students begin their studies at UCR.

  • Do you have opportunities for students to connect before they transfer?

    Yes! We are currently working on piloting a Transfer Preparation Bootcamp that will pilot the summer of 2025, this is open to students who are still attending a community college and have a year or more before they are ready to transfer, this will consist of a 3-part 1.5 hour online course. Check back for more details. We also are offering a pre-matriculation mentorship program, students who are admitted and who have submitted their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR)  will receive an email offering mentorship over the summer.
